This is a not to be missed IBMG event to help enhance your position here in China mitigating and highlighting the risk for your business or investment Fraud and corruption are serious issues that no business or investor wants to see impacting their establishment or progress in China. However, it is a reality that fraud can hit any firm or individual, especially when operating in an environment where there is a low level of transparency and considerable cultural business and social differences.

About the speakers:

Peter Humphrey is the founder and managing director of ChinaWhys, a consultancy that promotes transparency and ethical practices through risk mitigation measures and investigation. Peter has spent 35 years involved with China and is an expert on China fraud and corruption. He has resolved critical problems for many companies and works closely with leading multinationals and law firms. Before entering the risk consulting business Peter had a long and distinguished career as a foreign correspondent with Reuters in Asia, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. He later headed China investigations for Kroll and PwC before establishing ChinaWhys in 2003. Peter is fluent in Chinese, having a degree in Oriental Studies from Durham University, England, and has a working knowledge of several European languages. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and is Founding President of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Mainland China Chapter as well as a member of the American Society of Industrial Security He is also involved in charity as President of the Rotary Club of Beijing.

Stuart Lindley is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and has now been in China for over five years, after spending seven years in France and Germany. In all three countries he has worked on a wide variety of accounting projects – in Germany this was mainly for Mittelstand companies. Stuart speaks fluent German and is currently at intermediate level in Chinese. IFM is an accounting company based in Beijing, has a mix of Chinese, European and American employees, holding a wide range of international accounting qualifications. IFM specialises in accounting projects, including due diligence, GAAP conversions, interim financial management, and internal audit.Stuart will address the due-diligence issues relating to a company’s accounting systems and financial statements, and on the areas that normally raise the most questions (and eyebrows). He will explain how some of these areas overlap with legal due diligence.
